Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Reflecting on recent global tragic events including the tragedy of Christchurch, I was reminded of a holiday visit to an animal sanctuary where three large animals were lovingly playing together - a tiger, lion and a black bear; totally unique. The keeper told us that they were rescued together and were kept together as they had found comfort in each other. They continue to live peacefully together.
In our reading, Paul writes of a unique unity. Paul encouraged the Ephesians to live up to their calling as members of one body in Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, they would be able to live in unity as they developed humility, gentleness and patience. These attitudes also allow us to bear "with one another in love" through the common ground we have in Christ Jesus.
Despite our differences, we have been reconciled to both God and each other through the death of Jesus and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit. As the Church, we are to live out our calling and our new and true character. This is possible because there is only one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.
Have you come to know the blessings of one Lord, one faith and one baptism?
Prayer is so important for us all and I give thanks that we have you faithfully praying for this organisation as we live out the calling God has placed on us.
Blessings,
