Applying for a School Chaplaincy or Community Connector Position

We're looking for people who are qualified and dedicated to the wellbeing of local communities, including young people, families and wider community stakeholders. Are you committed to helping build communities that are connected, supported and whole?

Qualifications

All Korus Community Connectors and Korus Connect School Chaplains must be qualified. In order to be selected for a position with Korus Connect, you must meet the following minimum qualification requirements of a Certificate IV in Youth Work or Pastoral Care, or other equivalent qualification.

All applicants MUST have competency in CHCCS016 Respond to client needs and CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues or equivalent units. Child Safety Check

Korus Connect is committed to child safety and maintaining child safe and child friendly environments. We require applicants to have a valid Working with Children Check and disclose the results of a National Police Records Check issued within the last 12 months.

Endorsement from a Religious Organisation

Consistent with the philosophy, values, principles, beliefs and biblical foundations of Korus Connect, Chaplains and Community Connectors must be endorsed by a recognised or accepted religious institution.

To satisfy this criteria, Korus Connect requires applicants provide at least one satisfactory reference from a Minister, Priest, Pastor or Leader from the Christian Community with which they are currently involved which adheres to at least one of the three ecumenical creeds.

Selection Criteria

Successful applicants will have demonstrated relevant abilities, experience and knowledge in:

  • Providing support to children, young people, families and local communities to address social and emotional needs.
  • Providing pastoral and spiritual care, advocacy and critical incident response to support children, young people, families, staff and local communities.
  • Delivering wellbeing services within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Supporting schools and teachers to identify and develop educational, social and emotional programs to support children and young people who are vulnerable or at risk (specific to School Chaplains).
  • Supporting a broad range of community members impacted by trauma.
  • Liaising with community service organisations, government agencies, hospitals, specialist programs and other allied health professionals.
  • Effective involvement and understanding of school and educational environments (specific to School Chaplains).
  • Effective involvement and understanding of local community dynamics and community engagement (specific to Community Connectors).
  • Demonstrated involvement with a local Christian church and/or ministry experience.

  4. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a first round interview.
  5. Successful applicants will be invited to attend a second round interview with the school of the vacant position, or for the relevant community position.
  6. The successful candidate will be orientated and formally appointed as a School Chaplain or Community Connector.
