August 2018 Prayer Diary

We all want our lives to count for something. With only so many hours in the day, and limited days in the calendar, we want our actions to mean something and make a difference.

Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, but then to also love your neighbour as yourself. The two come together when we view what we do as service to God and others.

All work is sacred work, worthy of due diligence and 100% of our effort. Our reward isn't being ‘employee of the month’, a bonus, or the accolade of others. Our reward is our inheritance in heaven.

As we continue to reflect on the growth of Korus Connect and ACCESS ministries, we can often get overwhelmed with the amount of work in front of us. Yet during this time it is also impossible to ignore God’s leading, not only for us as an organisation, but also His call to us as individuals to serve Him and others in this ministry. All work done well and for God’s glory is Christian work.

We are His hands and feet, and must remember that it isn’t the greatness of the work which matters to God, but the love with which it’s done.

This quote from Mother Teresa spoke to me greatly when I was young: “Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own home. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbour. Let no-one ever come to you without leaving better or happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting.”

My prayer is that we may always remember the verse from Colossians, and give thanks to God for making a way for us to have the ultimate inheritance through His Son’s death on the cross.
