For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
As I reflect on this passage from Galatians, the sage advice of a friend who loved singing the hymn 'Down In The Valley With My Saviour I Would Go' comes to mind. The chorus rings out with a strong call to discipleship: "Follow! Follow! I will follow Jesus! Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on ... everywhere He leads me I will follow on!"
"It's simple," my friend would say, "if you want to be a disciple, then you must love God more than anyone or anything else. You must take up the cross, follow Jesus and die to yourself. Then, only then, will you experience true joy and an overflowing life."
These imparted words of wisdom about 'dying' and 'rising' taught me to live my Christian faith with more courage and conviction. From that moment on, I understood that Christ's crucifixion was the exchange of life - His life for mine. The cross for me has always symbolised the power of God's love in my life. I wear a crucifix around my neck for that purpose - it stands between me and the world, and between me and my ego. Indeed, I have nailed my personal ambitions to the wood of the cross through my commitment to follow Jesus Christ.
Through His grace, I have the confidence and courage to acknowledge my love for God. I find my strength in God, and am always ready when questioned to explain the joy of knowing God in my life. Dependence on Him is my Christian distinction, and I pray it can be witnessed anywhere and in every circumstance to a watching world. Out of this committed life, where I walk side by side with my Lord, may I be used as a blessing to others for the greater glory of His name.
My prayer is that you too can stand tall and walk in the confidence of your personal commitment throughout 2019 as you stay in step with Him. Thank you sincerely for your partnership in praying for Korus Connect. I also pray that this year brings you a renewed enthusiasm to embrace God's great plan for your life, so as to enjoy profound peace, joy and blessing upon you and your loved ones.
Yours in Christ,
Dawn Penney & the Korus Connect Team
