You, Lord, are my shepherd. I will never be in need. You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful water, and you refresh my life.

Psalm 23:1-3 (CEV)
A Word from Us

When was the last time that you were out in God's world, enjoying yourself and enjoying God? When was the last time you invited God to speak to you through His creation?

In the busyness of life, we are at risk of failing to take notice of the world around us; failing to notice what God might be saying to us through it. We may even think that the environment is not important for our spiritual health and wellbeing, either in caring for it or being nourished through it.

Maybe it's time to stop, look and listen. Time to be childlike in our wonder of the world; to notice the intricacies, to notice the patterns, the variety and the amazing way that different elements of  the natural world work together.

Jesus invited His listeners to notice the things around them as pointers to the goodness and greatness of God.

In Matthew 6:26-28, in relation to worrying about God's provision for our daily needs, we read, 'Look at the birds in the sky! They don't plant or harvest. They don't even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them. Aren't you worth more than birds? ... Look how the wild flowers grow. They don't work hard to make their clothes.' (CEV)

How many other times did Jesus refer to things in the natural environment? Recall His mention of trees, fields, stones, bread and water to name a few. Are these only relevant to those who work closely with the earth? I don't think so.

This month, I invite you to look, listen and wonder as you interact with and care for God's world. May your life with God and others be richer as a result!

Blessings,
